I stayed here exactly two years ago on a whim while passing through with my two kids. The owner booked my stay maybe an hour prior to showing up. Treated me like family and greeted me at my truck. Talked history with my 8 year old son and gave us breakfast vouchers to his restaurant down the street. That place became a core memory for my kids for sure. I’m writing this review later because I stumbled across a video my little boy took of the place “reviewing” it lol. So hopefully you guys will enjoy that video as well lol.

Perfect stay between Shreveport and central Texas!!!! Broke the long drive about exactly in half for us.
What an adorable little gem! Full of historic charm but with the added bonus of modern amenities like fast and free WiFi, a gorgeous claw foot tub plus walk in shower, Kurig coffee maker with all the fixings, and THE SOFTEST sheets and pillows ever - we felt like we were sleeping on a cloud! The owners and Inn manager are just about the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet too. This is the perfect halfway stop between Shreveport and central Texas (tucked away right off the highway, getting there was a breeze) but we would go out of our way to stay here again. It’s somehow expansive, yet cozy at the same time and we just loved our stay. Oh and I almost forgot, they also give you a $30 credit for breakfast at one of 3 local (and delightful) eateries - you get to choose!
Thank you Howard, Tony, and Mary for hosting us with such grace and kindness. I think my mom was about ready to move in if you’d have let her!

This place has it all! Like staying in a small museum! The owner met us at the door and gave us a tour and the history of the house. Gotta say, the history was fascinating!

Charming and Comfortable Stay at The English Merchants Inn
We stayed one night in Room #2, but wish we'd stayed longer. The English Merchant's Inn is as charming as it sounds. The attention to detail is top notch and the home is so cozy. Traditional English tea is provided along with other amenities to make your stay comfortable. The Owner of the home was so pleasant; we enjoyed chatting with Howard.
Wax. is a sweet little town with several restaurants and many shops. The B&B is only 0.5 mile or a quick drive to the little town. There's even a lake nearby that would be fun if you are staying for a longer amount of time. DAL/DFW is only about 30-45 minutes drive.

Beautiful and comfortable historic B&B
Had a wonderful experience at the English Merchant's Inn. The best way I would describe the in is "curated" - it is so beautifully decorated, with interesting furniture and decor that was a feast for the eyes, while still relaxing and comfortable. Warmly welcomed by the host, everything we needed for a great stay was at hand. Nice location in a quiet part of town, close to the center with restaurants and shops. There is quite a lot to see and explore in town. Highly recommend sitting on the porch at sunset soaking up the small town charm.

Charming and Comfortable
A charming and comfortable place to stay as a family, we were in Waxahachie for our son's wedding. The owner is very attentive to your needs. The beds are great and the bathrooms spacious. We stayed on the second floor with other family members and enjoyed having coffee, tea and breakfast together each morning. We plan to return for a weekend to just enjoy the Waxahachie downtown area.

A Zillion Teacups! Charming
Charming “English” Inn in the heart of Waxahatchie Texas. Local innkeeper very friendly. Comfortable, clean and spacious rooms with excellent clawfoot tub. An Anglophile’s escape. Great breakfast at three local establishments. Fun stop between Ft Worth and Houston.

Doesn’t get any better
10 out of 5. Amazingly comfortable room. Huge bed and the wife loved the claw foot tub. The host ,Howard, was great! He gave us a tour and helped us get settled, even introduced us to other patrons. We had a balcony and a large room, and the best bathroom. We will be back!

Not to be missed!
My husband's nephew and wife recommended I stay at their friends families' bed and breakfast in a historic home on Main Street. What a blast. It is quite eloquent and quiet with more amenities than you would ever expect. The Baskins are a precious couple that really care to please and meet all your needs. They know the town well.Breakfast is the time of one's personal choice. You pick one of three local, close coffee houses and let them know when you order that you are staying at the EMI. You don't need a ticket or pass. You can order whatever breakfast you like. I ate at White Rhino and Market Fresh and both were fast and friendly with great food.
I stayed in room 2 on the second floor. I loved having my own private balcony with a cup of hot tea. I enjoyed all the old magazines about Princess Dianna and the old fashioned tub was super comfy. I think you owe it to yourself to check out Waxahache while staying at EMI. Thank you Mary and Howard! I'll be back🥰

An Amazing Place
My wife and I were on a 3-city tour in Texas starting at Dallas-Fort Worth, and continued on to Austin and San Antonio. We booked a room at EMI, outside of Dallas, thinking it would be easier for us heading south from where it is. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for us much more than just a gateway for our trip. It is an elegant and charming estate both interior and exterior, historic yet super clean, cozy and comfortable. Howard is such a gentleman taking great care of the property. We had a quite cold day in Dallas mid Feb, but it warmed our hearts when we saw the fireplaces in our room as well as at the sitting area were turned on before we returned in the evening time. The attention to detail tells a lot about Howard and his way of taking care of his customers. We enjoyed our stay there tremendously with very fond memories.

Fabulously charming!
My husband and i drove in from Fort Worth for a quick getaway and stayed in The Cottage here. The owners, Howard and Mary, were so welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and The Cottage exceeded our expectations. It is a standalone building a few steps from the main house. It is charmingly decorated, plenty of room with a sitting area and large bedroom, and well stocked (K-Cups, toiletries, towels, etc.) We began our evening, at their bar/ restaurant, The English Merchant's Parlour, where Donnie fixed me a FABULOUS drink called the Chelsea's Punch. Just like the inn, the restaurant was charming and everyone was super friendly. Our stay included breakfast at a choice of two local restaurants. We chose the White Rhino, which was a very short walk and the food was delicious! We will definitely stay here again when coming back to Waxahachie!

A truly exceptional experience!
Preferring to stay in B&Bs in Europe, I'm always looking for the same rich experience here in the U.S. However, to date, it's been a pretty big disappointment....but then my domestic B&B stays have been primarily in California and they simply haven't measured up. But little Waxahachie (population about 37,000) stacks up admirably....thanks to this lovely Bed & Breakfast! The owners, Howard and Mary Baskin, have a real affinity for making their guests comfortable and special. We stayed in Room #1 and were the only guests that evening. Both Howard and Mary are really special people and we highly recommend this B&B for anyone In fact, if you are traveling through the DFW-Ft. Worth area, I suggest you consider this "little piece of heaven" instead of a cold, impersonal chain hotel in the overcrowded metropolitan area. The downtown area of Waxahatchie is filled with delightful shops (antiques, clothing, gifts, etc) that would love to welcome you and your credit card. We were totally "taken" with the area and delayed our onward journey until we had an opportunity to visit the local merchants and contribute to their coffers AND our storehouse of great memories. Breakfast was included the next morning at the nearby White Rhino Coffee Shop and it was as outstanding as the English Merchant's Inn was. A wonderful stay in every way....highly recommended!

Eclectic, Unusual Charm!
I had to travel to Waxahachie on business and really didn't want to stay in a chain hotel. Luckily I found this gem on TripAdvisor and was certainly glad I made the extra effort. Proprietor Howard Baskin and his wife have created something extraordinary here in the middle of this historic little south Dallas suburb. In short, it's like staying in a museum. If you're adventurous and have a penchant for something unique this is for you. Mr. Baskin is super friendly - what I would call a gentleman and a scholar. He'll not only welcome you to your quarters, which is like going back in time, but he'll gladly delight you with the history of the building and the town. I sprung for the suite, which was super spacious and had everything I needed. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable and I can't recall the last time I slept so well. In the morning I went to Rhino Coffee for breakfast, which is included in the price of lodging. The coffee and food were delicious. I recommend the Hash Benedict. Then knock yourself out exploring historic downtown Waxahachie and touring the historic homes in the surrounding area.

Wonderful
Stayed here after attending the Renaissance Festival. Beautiful home, clean rooms and kind Host. Very comfortable beds and the softest sheets I have ever felt. Stayed in room 1. Loved the clawfoot tub, plenty of hot water, good WiFi and excellent location. Breakfast down the street at the White Rino was very nice. Only downside was the low water pressure in the shower. Would definitely stay again.

Clean, cozy, clever decor, comfortable
In my earlier raving review I wrote the wrong name fir their restaurant on the hustorical Square. It is The English merchant's Parlour. I accidentally wrote tavern. Make a reservation because this place is very special. The hosts were generous with their time. I especially enjoyed hearing about the home's history. Its very easy to find. A great park is just down the street. Lovely huge trees surround the large welcoming porches. Balcony was a plus.

The inn exceeded my expectations, it felt like going to your grandparents house. It felt like home and was very comfortable. We had a great stay. Downtown. Is walking distance and worth going to see. We spent lots of time shopping and enjoying the town.

AMAZING!!!
The host was soooo AMAZING, as it turned out, we knew some of the same people so it was fun to talk about our commonalities. The home was EXTREMELY COZY and inviting, I wanted to move in.
We were in town for a funeral, nice distraction from the sadness.

Beautiful home with gracious hosts in a quaint Texas town.
Host met us and showed us to our suite. The turn of the century home is beautiful and comfortable. Mary and Howard anticipated our needs. We were fortunate to run into Tony (he has been a long time employee and friend of Howard and Mary). Tony gave us a grand tour of the house and its rich history. We are looking for reasons to return to the area. Enjoyed an excellent steak and sides at Prime 115. Enjoyed a evening at the Playhouse downtown as well as the evening entertainment at Big Al's.
